Since 1954 Ohio's electric cooperatives have been helping graduating seniors continue their education through local and statewide scholarship competitions. Firelands Electric Cooperative and the Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives (OREC) offer youth scholarships to graduating high school seniors.
Children of Members Scholarship Program - Firelands Electric Cooperative awards $10,000 in scholarships each spring to outstanding high school seniors who reside in a home served by Firelands Electric Cooperative. The young man and young woman chosen to receive the top two Firelands awards are then eligible to compete in the Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives (OREC) statewide competition for an additional $36,400 in scholarships.
