Children of Members Scholarship
Each year, Firelands awards $10,000 in scholarships to outstanding high school seniors residing in a home served by Firelands Electric Cooperative. The students are selected in an application and interview process, and scholarships are awarded to the top five boys and top five girls. Awards in each group include a first place scholarship of $1,500; second place of $1,250; third place of $1,000; fourth place of $750; and fifth place of $500. The young man and young woman chosen to receive the top two Firelands Electric Co-op awards are then eligible to compete for additional scholarships in the statewide contest at Ohio's Electric Cooperatives in Columbus.
What are the entry requirements?
Applicants must be a graduating high school senior, whose parents or legal guardian are members of Firelands Electric Cooperative. Qualifying applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, and candidates are evaluated on their scholastic record, personal achievement, leadership, school and community activities, and cooperative knowledge.
