Cardinal Plant Tour
Where does my electricity come from? How is electricity generated?
Join Firelands Electric Cooperative for the 2017 tour of Cardinal Generating Station to find out!
Located on the Ohio River in Brilliant, Ohio, Buckeye Power’s Cardinal Plant provides power to the 24 electric co-ops in Ohio. The plant has invested millions of dollars into environmental upgrades — making it one of the cleanest coal-fired power plants in the world.
The 2017 Cardinal Plant tour is scheduled to take place Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017. This scenic, one day trip is free to cooperative members and includes an interesting and informative guided tour of the plant, as well as dinner at Dutch Valley Restaurant & Bakery, in Sugarcreek. The bus will depart from Firelands’ office headquarters in New London and will also pick-up/drop-off at the Ashland County Career Center on State Route 60. Members signed up to attend will receive a complete itinerary in early August.
Since the power plant can be a potentially hazardous area, tour participants must be at least twelve (12) years old, unless specifically authorized. There will be a considerable amount of walking, several flights of stairs, and going through some hot and dusty areas. Members with health concerns, those who require assistance walking, or those who cannot walk more than a half mile without resting, should not take the tour. Space is limited and seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that the Cardinal Plant tour is only offered to Firelands Electric Co-op members who have not previously toured the plant. Seating is limited, so be sure to sign up early.
