PeakBuster
PeakBuster Incentive Program
Rising energy costs have caused your electric cooperative’s
load management program to be more
important than ever! Firelands Electric and Buckeye Power pay higher prices for power during periods of high demand for electricity. PeakBuster controls help reduce costly demand
during peak times — 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on very hot summer afternoons. Firelands is asking for your help to reduce system demand and lower electric costs for everyone by offering PeakBuster reward programs:
$10 to upgrade old style PeakBuster control
Firelands’ is looking for
old style load management devices (shown right)
that NEED to be updated with new, more advanced
equipment. The old style load management devices
have been known to be located near main electric
panels and/or breaker boxes, near furnaces and,
electric water heaters. If you have an old style load management device,
Firelands will replace it with new digital equipment
that is more reliable and includes peak control indicator
lights.
To report an old style PeakBuster device, please
contact Firelands’ at (800) 533-8658 during normal
working hours to schedule an appointment for upgrade. Once your old style PeakBuster is upgraded, Firelands will pay you a $10 bill credit.
$100 to add a PeakBuster control to your central A/C system
Firelands Electric and Buckeye Power will pay you $100* bill credit to add a Cool Returns A/C PeakBuster control to
your cooling system to help lower Summer Peak Demand. In addition, members receive a
$10 credit on your electric bill each summer* month! On very hot,
humid summer days the demand for electricity increases dramatically
when everyone in the region turns on their cooling systems, and PeakBuster load controls can reduce cooling system demand and help lower electric
cost.
The Cool Returns A/C PeakBuster control helps reduce costly demand
during peak times — 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on very hot summer afternoons. Your
A/C, heat pump or geothermal is never completely shut off. The PeakBuster control merely limits the amount of time your cooling system compressor
can run during each peak hour.
The cooling system compressor will never be off more than 12 minutes
during any half-hour period and your furnace fan continues to run, circulating
air throughout your home to maximize comfort.
Help us keep the cost of electricity as low as possible— and
get a cool $100 credit on your electric bill! Firelands Electric will temporarily halt the installation of new
Cool Returns A/C summer PeakBuster controls on Nov. 20 for the
winter season. We will begin Cool Returns A/C control installations
again on April 1.
Please continue to contact your Member Services Department if you have central A/C, a heat
pump or geothermal system and want to help reduce peak demand. We will put your name
on the list and call you next spring for a convenient appointment to install the free control
device. You then will qualify for the $100 bill credit rebate and the $10 bill credit each
summer month.
*The Cool Returns A/C incentive is available to Firelands members who have central air conditioning, heat pumps or geothermal systems
that do not already have a Cool Returns A/C control installed. Participating members will receive a $100 credit on their electric bill
and must agree to keep the system in place for a fair trial period of 12 months. The “summer months” subject to the $10 per month bill
credit are June, July, August and September, beginning with June 2009.
